Tools and Techniques
Next Step Training uses empirically valid techniques supported by scientific evidence to help clients in all the dimensions of therapy. For further information on the research methodology and theoretical discussions on these techniques, please see our Links page.
HeartMath:
Studies in neurophysiology have identified neurological and physiological connections between how the heart beats and the effect this can have on physical and cognitive function. Conditions such as stress and anxiety produce elevated levels of cortisol. Research has demonstrated that specific breathing techniques using equipment like emWave technology smooths heart patterns and reduces cortisol levels calming patients and improving cognitive function and emotional well-being.
BrainWare Safari:
This software is revolutionary, improving cognitive function, learning skills, and retention of information. Next Step Training has the diagnostic protocols and therapeutic methods to design programs tailored to the individual needs of each client. Clients as young as 6 years old can improve learning and cognition skills in measurable ways within the first four weeks of the program, and those improvements continue through the 12-week program of BrainWare Safari. And, it is just plain fun! It works like a video game making the exercises enjoyable and challenging.
SDI/CISS:
Next Step trainers are also certified to use other instruments. The Strength Deployment Inventory (SDI) is a valuable tool used in business and therapeutic settings to help clients understand their sources of motivation as well as conflict. The Campbell Skills and Interest Survey (CISS) is often used in educational and therapeutic settings to help clients make decisions about education and career fields.
IVA Plus:
The IVA+ is a diagnostic tool designed to identify definitively whether a client has ADD/ADHD or not. Next Step Training partners with a client's physician to offer empirically valid testing to determine the presence of ADD/ADHD and work in partnership with physicians to monitor the effects of prescription medication. We also partner with area specialists to refer clients to behavioral optometry specialists should that be needed.
